Kathy Helgemo grew up in Destin, Florida, attended Florida State University where she earned her BA in English Education.

As a young girl through adulthood, in every space she owned, her love of design was never hampered by a low budget or hand-me-down furniture. Kathy always used what she had and creatively made beautiful interiors for her family. This talent spilled over into friend’s houses and into homes that were for sale.

Interior Design as a profession has always been
 a thought in the back of Kathy's mind.

Her previous jobs as teacher, medical office manager and stay-at-home mother have allowed her many creative opportunities, but she always wanted to actively pursue Interior Design professionally. What she found out however is that, Interior Redesign is really what she wanted to do seriously.

Tradition Interior Design is very product driven,
she wanted to be more people driven.

 Interior Redesign validates people’s choices and helps them realize the potential of what they already have instead of throwing out and starting over. Sometimes people need new things, but often not too much.

This conservative attitude of Interior Redesign is what drew Kathy to I.R.I.S. and training to be an Interior Redesigner. People, not product. Reusing and rethinking are what Kathy likes to use as a philosophy of decorating. She is always excited about the endless possibilities of recreating peoples’ interiors and ultimately making them excited about what they already had!
